Deloitte Internet Regulation Updater
On 6 December 2022, the Government published a new draft of the UK Online Safety Bill (OSB). Previous drafts were released in March, May, and June 2022. This latest draft follows the announcement on 24 November 2022 that the OSB would return to the House of Commons for debate on 5 December 2022.
That debate only considered certain proposed amendments with many reserved for further debate next week at Committee, including the controversial requirements relating to ‘legal but harmful’ content for adults and their proposed removal. Accordingly, the latest draft only reflects certain amendments, key examples of which we set out in our update yesterday.
We will be monitoring further progression of the OSB, including next week’s Committee, due to conclude by 15 December, and any further agreed amendments, and provide updates in due course.
