Deloitte Internet Regulation Updater
The long-awaited Online Safety Bill (OSB) has passed through its final legislative gateway and is expected to receive Royal Assent and become law soon. The UK’s regulator for online content and safety (Ofcom) will then begin its work to implement the measures through a phased approach.
The OSB will require internet companies to quickly tackle illegal content and take steps to safeguard users with a particular focus on children, from harmful content on their platforms. Failure to comply will risk the imposition of substantial fines, criminal liability on senior managers and other punitive measures.
